Attendance at Wyong Creek in 2017
Attendance continues to improve at Wyong Creek School with a 93.7% attendance rate so far in in 2017 compared with a rate of 90.6% at the same time last year. Average attendance for all NSW Public Schools in 2016 was 94.0%. An attendance rate of 94% equates to approximately 12 days absent each school year; or three days each term.
Families who elect to take family holidays during school term, can no longer apply for a ‘certificate of exemption' from NSW Public Schools under 2016 adjusted NSW Department of Education policy. Exemption means excluded from total absence count. While our school will on occasion approve ‘leave' for special one off holidays during school term dates (Overseas trips, etc) absences accumulated from extended holidays are now included in the count under policy requirements.
Our school recognises that family holidays are rich experiences where our students learn much about the world, however, parents are reminded that these absences are now included in both the child's attendance record and the school's. Parents looking to travel on holidays during school term are asked to complete an ‘Application for Extended Leave' form – available from the office. This will be processed by the Principal.
When reading your child's report, please take the time to look at the days absent and reflect upon exactly how much learning time your child is missing out on and the consequences this has.
School Times.
The official school times for our school are 8.45am to 2.45pm. The playground is open 15 minutes before classes commence and teachers are rostered on duty in the office from 8.15am. Students arriving after 8:15am and before 8:30am are asked to sit quietly in the office where supervision will be provided.
Parents are reminded Busy Bees does provide child care after school for those families finding pick up time difficult.
Band and music lessons.
Our school music program will be holding make up lessons this Friday. Please ensure children are at school with their books and instruments. Band practice will begin at 7:45am.
I am pleased to announce that children participating in the music program will be putting on a recital for the rest of the school this Monday. I am very much looking forward to seeing what they have been learning.
P&C MEETING
The June P&C meeting will be held on Monday starting at 3pm in the Library. Come along to hear updates on the planning for the playground, working bee and Gonski funding.
