Welcome to Term 4. I hope that the holidays were a good opportunity to recharge the batteries and enjoy some time with family and friends. I am always surprised at just how fast 2 weeks can go.
Three years ago our school community got together to map out a future for our school. The 2015-2017 school plan set milestones to address the 3 main focus areas of: teaching, learning and community engagement. We are mindful when talking with students about their learning to recognise their strengths and areas for future development. Our school is no different. We recognise that we have particular strengths but we are always striving to accept new challenges and raise the bar. Later this term we will be asking for your input to drive the next three years of planning. This is an opportunity for all members of our school community to have a voice. In the coming weeks please look out for (and respond to) opportunities to share your vision.
Our KindyStart program is due to begin on the first Friday in November. For some of you it will be years ago, while for others just a short twelve months has passed since you embarked on this journey. You either had that feeling of excitement or perhaps hesitancy to send your child to school. If you are aware of anyone who hasn't yet completed the enrolment form for Kinder in 2018 please ask them to contact the school as soon as possible. This introduction to school allows students to feel more comfortable in the environment and creates opportunities for parents to make connections.
It was fabulous to see the students return to school in their correct school uniform and ready to begin a busy Term 4. A reminder that items of jewellery are best left for wearing outside of school for health and safety reasons. During recess and lunch, we encourage all students and teachers to wear a hat in the playground to protect themselves from the sun. With the benefit of a large COLA, shaded areas are available but a hat is still actively promoted.
Creating strong and compassionate student leaders within our school is highly valued. Our current Year 5 students will soon put themselves forward for selection as Student Leaders for 2018. Elections are planned for later this term.
Every day I am aware, as are all teachers, of the capacity we have to be a positive influence on the children we interact with … it makes coming to work both a challenge and an enormous reward. I look forward to working with everyone again this term to find multiple solutions to the challenges and sharing in the successes.
