Central Coast Appreciation Awards
The Central Coast Appreciation Awards ceremony was held on Monday afternoon at The Entrance Campus of Tuggerah Lakes Secondary College. Wyong Creek Public School nominated our School Admin Manager, Mrs Kaylene Troy and one of our amazing classroom helpers, Mrs Jeanette Morris to receive awards. Kaylene is nominated for outstanding work leading our front office and for her work in implementing the new LMBR system. Jeanette is nominated for her outstanding work as a volunteer at our school over many years. I would like to congratulate both of these ladies for the significant contribution they have made at Wyong Creek Public School.
NAPLAN results out this week
Congratulations to our Year 3 and Year 5 students who have received their NAPLAN results this week. I have spent the week analysing the results and am happy with our performance as a school.
I am happy to report that for the past 6 consecutive years our students have performed well above the state average in Reading, Numeracy, Grammar and Punctuation.
While the NAPLAN test is important and provides us with a useful snapshot of how children are performing academically, it is important to remember when discussing the results with your child and your child's teacher that this test does not assess all of what makes each of our children exceptional and unique. The people who score these tests don't know that some of our children love to sing, are good at drawing or can teach others how to use a computer program. They have not seen the way that some of them can dance with grace or speak confidently to a large group. They do not know that their friends count on them to be there for them when they are sad. They do not know that they participate in sports, help Mum and Dad or that they can play with their little brothers, sister or cousins. They do not know they are caring, thoughtful and that every day they do their best. Because these attributes cannot be tested.
The scores you get from this test will tell you how your child did on that day, but they will not tell you everything. They can't tell you that they have improved on something they found difficult. They can't tell you that every day they brighten up the day here at Wyong Creek and make this a special place to learn. They can't tell you how amazingly special your child is and how much they are valued by the staff and children here at school.
So ... remember, when going through the results this week to give your child a cuddle and tell them we are proud of them.
