K/1 News
I can't believe how fast this term is going! We have had another busy and productive week in K/1. On Monday mornings we are lucky to have the help of two wonderful senior students from Wyong High School. They are quite helpful and also very welcome in K/1. We now have some extremely productive literacy groups running on Monday mornings. Thank you to those two students (I won't name you and embarrass you publicly).
This week during numeracy groups, our year one children are learning about Area and our kindergarten students are exploring Volume and Capacity. The kindergarten children have been exploring the capacity of containers using water and sand (it is amazing how fun Maths can be!). To explore surface area, one activity our year one children have been tracing there partner's body shape and measuring the surface area with informal objects. They came up with some great ideas to calculate the surface area of their body outlines.
In COGS this week, K/1 have taken a time lapse of a day at Wyong Creek PS using the App iMotion. We set up the App to take a photo of the playground every minute all day. When we played it in fast motion we were able to see how our day changes. The children were amazed!
The special lesson on pet safety last Thursday that Miss Williams organised for us was very informative. The children learned how to be safe if they come across a pet that they are not familiar with.
Thank you for all the support from the Wyong Creek community. If you have any questions at all, please come and have a chat with me.

This week has been a lot of fun. Our Year 1 and 2 students got to meet Wendy and her dog Gelato last Thursday. Wendy taught us how to recognise when a dog is feeling angry or scared. We also learned how to meet a happy dog safely.
This week we have been learning about area in Maths lessons. Year 1 and 2 had lots of fun finding the area of their hands and feet. Year 3 discovered that shapes that have the same area can have many different designs.
We had a lot of fun doing some role-play during You Can Do It! Lessons. We particularly enjoyed the part where we had to act out the wrong way to behave and then the right way. We also learned about the blockers that can get in the way of our success.
Year 2 and 3 have been doing a space web quest where they have to encourage people to visit a planet in our solar system. They worked in groups, with each group member having a specific task. Tasks included: astronomer, travel agent, spaceship designer, and rocket designer. This has been a lot of fun, and there have been some amazing rocket and spacesuit creations.

Yesterday Skye, Macey, Thomas and Whitney went to the zone swimming carnival. We all did our best and there were a lot of good swimmers. We all did our best and went very well but unfortunately no one got to the next level.
In library we did some work on Gallipoli. We learnt about how many soldiers died, were injured and how many survived. Everyone is enjoying listening to Mr Ireland read us the story "In the trenches". We have also been making masks for a mask competition in library.
With our technology we have presented apps to the class, jointly edited a shared document (all at once) and there were some excellent presentations of the 7x tables happening.
We hope everyone has a great week,

I'd like to wish the Softball team all the best in their first game against another school ,which is happening next Wednesday. We have another training session this afternoon and a few lunch times left to fine tune our skills.
Well done to the swimmers yesterday. It is important for our kids to see what competition can be like against others who train very hard.
We will be selecting a chess team in a couple of weeks so if you are interested it might be time to dust of the chess set and see if someone at home can give you a few games.
A reminder that on our JB HiFi education link provided in previous newsletters there are some good deals on offer for our families.
